Paced by three second-half touchdowns, Penn-Trafford catapulted itself to victory over Hempfield, 35-7, at Penn Trafford Senior High School’s Warrior Stadium Friday night.
Penn-Trafford led by only a touchdown at halftime, but that all changed when PT quarterback Mike Brown threw a 48-yard strike to Bob Westerlund to break the game wide open. Eight minutes later, Brown connected with Westerlund for a 16-yard touchdown reception. PT’s Jordan Curry added a five-yard rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
Hempfield’s sophomore quarterback Dante Nania alluded heavy pressure from the PT defense throughout the game. Nania scored on a 10-yard rushing touchdown late in the second quarter, which was the Spartans only tally.
Despite only running nine first half plays, PT would not be denied. The Warriors were also backed by Hempfield’s lack of productivity in the first half. Of 11 Hempfield possessions in the first half, six of them resulted in punts, while two more ended in turnovers.
PT will play at Gateway this Friday night. Hempfield will host Norwin in its home opener.
