Running back Arnold Walker rushed for 123 yards to lead Uniontown past Yough, 40-21, in a Class AAA Keystone Conference matchup Friday night.
Each team put together similar statistics in this inter-conference game, but Uniontown’s balanced attack and opportunistic defense was too much for Yough to handle.
Leading Uniontown’s offense was Walker, who not only collected 123 yards on the ground, but he also scored two of Uniontown’s six touchdowns. Yough led 7-6 in the first quarter when Walker rushed for a seven-yard touchdown run. Yough wouldn’t regain the lead.
Walker scored his second touchdown on Uniontown’s next drive as he bulldozed his way for one-yard over the Yough defense early in the second quarter.
While Uniontown’s rushing attack was solid throughout the evening, its passing attack marveled as well.
Quarterback Doogie Saner threw for 125 yards and two touchdowns, both of which to wide-out Brian Grady. Grady’s two touchdown receptions were his only two catches on the day, but totaled 96 yards.
Yough had opportunities to compete with its conference rival throughout the game, but couldn’t sustain consistent offensive pressure. Quarterback Mike Bashioum was held to 30 passing yards in the loss. Running back Benny Hoffer quietly put together another solid performance, rushing for 146 yards on 20 carries. Hoffer also scored two touchdowns in the game. Fellow running back Bob Bridge left the game in the first half with a shoulder injury and did not return. His status is unknown. With the win, Uniontown takes over sole possession of first place in the AAA Keystone Conference.
