Introduction

Welcome to “ Five-Star Hometown Insurance Review ”, a presentation brought to you by Mark and Donna Stevenson of Stevenson Insurance Associates LLC, 662 North Main Street, Greensburg, Pa 15601. Stevenson Insurance Associates LLC is an independent insurance agency and has been serving the Greater Westmoreland County area for over the past 25 years by providing auto, home, business, and life insurance products. In March 2011, Stevenson Insurance Associates LLC received double honors by being named as a recipient of the Erie Insurance Founders Award, recognizing the strongest measure of agency performance, and by receiving the Gold Award - Best Insurance Agency by the Trib Total Media Readers Choice Awards. In June 2010, Stevenson Insurance Associates LLC was also recognized by Pittsburgh Magazine as a “ Five-Star Insurance Agency ”, with less than 4% of the home/auto professionals in the Pittsburgh area receiving this award. With over 45 years of combined experience and other numerous agency awards, Mark and Donna have come to realize the importance of educating the insurance consumer, and by doing so, help the consumer make more informative decisions regarding their insurance coverage. Many consumers simply base their insurance coverage strictly on “cost”, but they fail to realize the “ true cost ” of not purchasing the proper coverage should a loss occur. Insurance by its’ very nature presents itself as a very complicated subject, and much like a foreign language to most. As your hometown professional insurance agency, Stevenson Insurance Associates LLC is proud to present, “ Five-Star Hometown Insurance Review ”, an educational guide for the general public, and a means to give readers a more basic and better understanding of insurance terms and coverages. Please call our office with any questions at 724-832-9889. You may also contact our office by e-mail thru the link to our website located on this page. Your inquiries will be answered promptly and professionally!

Valuable Tips for Safe Winter Driving

Severe weather makes driving treacherous. Snow, ice, freezing rain, fog and even the winter sun all conspire to make winter driving more difficult and dangerous. With a few valuable tips, this winter does not have to be a “white knuckle” winter for you. Below are a few things that you can do to stay safe while driving on snow and ice covered roads.

  • Get a Grip - Make sure that your automobile has adequate tires with sufficient tread to obtain the best traction. Even “all season” tires don’t necessarily have great snow traction. Snow tires are always best with at least 6/32-inch tread.
  • Make sure you can see - Check your windshield wiper blades and replace them if necessary. Check your windshield washer system and fill it with anti-icing fluid. Make certain your windshield defroster is working properly.
  • Check your lights - Clear your headlights and taillights from all snow. Use your headlights at all times so that others will see you.
  • Buckle up - Before driving your car, make sure all occupants are wearing their seat belts. Be sure that all child safety seats are secure as well.
  • Drive cautiously - Drive at a safe speed and be very aware of other motorists that may be near you. Remember to take turns slowly to prevent sliding and be extra cautious when changing lanes in traffic. Always make sure to keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.
  • Brake cautiously - Never stomp on your brakes, especially when you feel your vehicle sliding. Hard braking will cause you to lose control of your auto. Gentle tapping on the brakes works best and can prevent them from locking up.  Most automobiles are now equipped with ABS braking. It is good practice to be familiar with your vehicles braking capabilities.
  • Watch for pedestrians - Often times pedestrians will stand partially on the street when sidewalks and curbs are covered with snow. Be especially careful when it is snowing and dreary out which reduces visibility.
Following these few safety tips will help to ensure that you have a safe winter driving experience. Please remember to drive slow and remain cautious at all times.
