The Greensburg man charged with raping and killing a Pitt student pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
WTAE-TV reports 22-year-old Matthew Darby made the guilty plea in exchange for the prosecution’s promise to not pursue the death penalty against him. Darby was arrested in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina just days after police found his ex-girlfriend 20-year-old Alina Sheykhet dead in her off-campus apartment in Oakland.
Darby also faces charges of raping another ex-girlfriend of his, an unidentified IUP student, in Indiana County, and with raping a girl in Elizabeth.
