Monday was the first listening session for the Greensburg Catholic Diocese and some of those who attended the meeting at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg said that a change in the culture of the diocese is needed.
The Tribune-Review reports that some of the attendees said the grand jury report about sexual abuse among members of the clergy exposed secrecy and insensitivity towards the abuse victims. Other comments centered on the identification of priests who were removed from service, saying that they should not be identified until the credible accusations have been proven true, and how prospective priests who are likely to commit abuse will not be assigned to positions that would give them that opportunity based on background checks and psychological tests.
The next listening session is scheduled for St. Therese, Little Flower of Jesus Parish in Uniontown on Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30.
