The survivors of the sexual abuse by members of the clergy are asking the members of Pennsylvania’s Senate to return to session for a vote on a bill that would open a window for older victims of abuse to sue their abusers.
The Tribune-Review reports that representatives with the national nonprofit group Stop Child Predators say they have enough votes to get Senate Bill 261 passed as it stands right now. Those representatives made a stop in Greensburg earlier this week showing support for the bill.
Current statute of limitations law prohibits victims older than 30 years old from filing lawsuits, but supporters of the bill say they want a two-year window so that those older 30 years old to sue their attackers and institutions, like the Catholic Church.
