Salem Township has been honored by the National Weather Service as a Storm Ready Supporter Community.
The Tribune-Review reports that to qualify, Salem had to maintain a 24-hour warning point and emergency operations center, have more than one way to receive alerts from the National Weather Service and alert the public, monitor local weather and flood conditions, conduct community preparedness programs, have trained local weather spotters in place, and ensure hazardous weather and flooding are addressed in emergency prep plans.
The Storm Ready program is meant to encourage communities to establish weather safety plans and promote weather awareness.
