A Smithton man who fled county sheriff’s deputies about a month ago is now in County Prison after he was picked up during a stakeout in South Huntingdon.
The Tribune-Review reports that 38-year-old James Hayes was picked up by police as they acted on a tip that he was at a home on Fitz Berry Road on Saturday night. On October 3rd, Hayes and his girlfriend, 32-year-old Jillian Richter, formerly of Latrobe, as deputies arrived at his home on Motordrome Road near Smithton to arrest him. After crashing the car into the woods near Smithton Pike, he and Richter fled on foot.
Hayes is now in jail after he failed to post $50,000 bond.
