A firefighter from Vandergrift lost his home to fire Wednesday morning.
KDKA-TV reports that Rick Hooks found out that his home was on fire and he beat firefighters to the scene to help them out, but in the end, his home was destroyed.
Everyone was able to get out safely. Hooks is low on money, as he had been spending money on attorneys to adopt his granddaughter, and that process was completed, but he was not able to keep up payments on his home insurance.
Hooks is being assisted by the Red Cross and some of his fellow firefighters are also trying to help him out.
