Police in Mt. Pleasant Township have charged a grocery store owner with selling items that were shoplifted from other area businesses.
Police say that over the last three years, 60-year-old Melvin “Beanie” McCloy, who ran McCloy’s store on Buckeye Road in Bridgeport would buy stolen items like meat, sodas and other grocery store items that people brought to his business and then re-sell them at a profit.
A look at McCloy’s business records revealed that in 2016 and 2017, McCloy deposited more than $5 million in illegally gained funds.
McCloy’s preliminary hearing is set for November 29th.
