A local World War II veteran has received a high honor from the French government.
The Tribune-Review reports that 96-year-old Joseph Folino of Jeannette was awarded the French Legion of Honor award during a special Veterans Day ceremony at the Greensburg VFW. The award is France’s highest decoration.
Folino was drafted when he was 20 years old and took part in the US Army’s liberation of France, starting in Normandy and going to Paris, and was on hand for the Battle of the Bulge.
Folino said that not only do the soldiers deserve recognition, but so do the nurses that worked hard during that time.
