The attorney for a store owner accused of selling stolen merchandise is saying that the massive amounts of deposited money that were shown in a forensic analysis of bank accounts were actually checks that the owner deposited for check cashing reasons.
The Tribune-Review reports that Francis Murrman, who is representing Melvin McCloy of McCloy’s Store in Bridgeport, said that his client cashed checks as a convenience for his customers.
McCloy is accused of buying merchandise that was stolen from other stores and selling it at his small shop at a profit. That forensic analysis showed millions of dollars deposited over two years.
