Jury selection is scheduled to start today for the corruption trial of Westmoreland County Sheriff Jonathan Held.
The Tribune-Review reports that Held is charged with two counts of theft and one count corruption for incidents in his re-election bid in 2014 and 2015. Held allegedly ordered sheriff’s deputies to work on campaign-related duties while they were on the clock for the sheriff’s office. Held has denied this, saying the accusations came from disgruntled former employees.
The trial is expected to take a week once it gets underway.
