Westmoreland County Commissioners have approved the use of therapy dogs in the courthouse.
The Tribune-Review reports that 13 therapy dog handlers will set up in family court on Mondays and Wednesdays on a rotating basis starting this week. One or two dogs will be on hand to provide comfort when children and families are in a waiting room in the mornings. This will primarily be used for dependency hearings, for when a child is removed from a situation of abuse or neglect.
The dogs are provided through the Thera-Paws program of the Westmoreland County Obedience Training Club.
