Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck announced yesterday that he will not prosecute the Reverend Joseph Bonafed for alleged sexual abuse.
The Tribune-Review reports that the reason for that decision was because “a credible prosecution could not be supported.” The charges stemmed from an allegation the office received in late August from the Catholic Diocese in Greensburg saying Bonafed had inappropriate contact with a minor dating back to the early 1990’s.
Greensburg Catholic Diocese Spokesman Jerry Zufelt said in a statement that the diocese has already started a canonical investigation which will examine the allegation in relation to church law.
