A new trial date has been set for the public corruption trial of Westmoreland County Sheriff Jonathan Held.
The Tribune-Review reports that jury selection for Held’s new trial will start April 1st. During the previous trial, the jury found held guilty of both counts he was facing, but when they were polled individually, one of the jurors did not confirm the verdict, and a mistrial was declared.
The prosecution plans to present new evidence that Held accompanied deputies to place campaign signs along the route of a police officer’s funeral procession. Held is accused of using sheriff’s deputies to do campaign chores while on the clock for the county. Held has denied those claims.
