Opening statements are expected today in the trial of a Latrobe man charged with first degree murder in the death of a man who tried to intervene in an armed robbery of a drug dealer.
The Tribune-Review reports that 23-year-old Zachary McGrath is one of three men charged with the shooting in January of 2016 of 20-year-old Daniel McNerny in front of a St. Clair Street home in Latrobe. Prosecutors say McNerny tried to stop the armed robbery of a Pittsburgh man who came to Latrobe to sell drugs, but when he recognized McGrath as one of the three involved, McGrath allegedly shot McNerny.
Last year, a jury convicted Austin Krinock of second degree murder in connection with this case and was sentenced to 34 years to life. A third defendant is awaiting trial in March.
