The owner of a Mt. Pleasant grocery store waived a preliminary hearing and will go to trial on charges of running a corrupt organization, dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities, receiving stolen property and fraudulently tracking in food orders.
The Tribune-Review reports that 60-year-old Melvin “Beanie” McCloy was charged with selling stolen groceries after a two-year investigation into his grocery store in Bridgeport. Police say that he would buy stolen groceries that people would sell him, and he would turn around and sell them at the store, and the products ranged from soda to laundry detergent.
McCloy’s attorney, Francis R. Murrman said that even though the hearing was waived, there is no plea agreement in place and he plans on fighting the charges in court.
