A man convicted of drug delivery resulting in death has requested a new trial.
The Tribune-Review reports that 45-year-old Michael Peterson of Mt. Pleasant was the first person in Westmoreland County to be convicted of the charge. His 2016 trial found him guilty of selling the heroin used in the overdose of his 45-year-old cousin, Samuel Christner, two years earlier. Witnesses during the trial testified that Christner sold the drugs for $50 at a convenience store in Youngwood.
Peterson is now serving an eight-to-16 year prison sentence. Peterson claims his lawyer did not adequately represent him, and he did not properly challenge evidence presented during the case.
