A student from Hempfield High School will face charges after allegedly using social media to threaten students.
According to a letter posted to the school’s Web site by Principal Kathleen Charlton, the student sent the message to friends that threatened the safety of students and staffers, and those friends notified school officials. State police were called in to investigate and found that the student, who has not been identified, had no intention of carrying out the threat.
Charges are being filed so the student’s actions can be addressed, and the district is also expected to take disciplinary action. Charlton commended the students who reported the threats, and said they would continue to take such reports seriously.
