A Hempfield man who has served as a sheriff’s deputy has announced he wants to run for Sheriff.
The Tribune-Review reports that 56-year-old Sam Pilato announced he is seeking the Republican nomination for the job. He has been a deputy for the last eight years, and he said that if elected, he wants to return the office to a state of normalcy, and start to regain the trust in the community.
It’s not known at this time if current Sheriff Jonathan Held will run for re-election. Right now, he is awaiting trial on charges that he directed the sheriff’s department to perform chores for his last election campaign while they were on the clock for the county.
