At their meeting earlier this week, Hempfield Township Supervisors voted against inviting the Pennsylvania Auditor General’s office to look into several matters that would be outside what the AG would be allowed to look for.
The Tribune-Review reports that Supervisor Robert Ritson said that there were several instances between 2016 and 2018 when the board allegedly took action on items without the public’s knowledge, including a union settlement agreement, a volunteer firefighter fund, a $4.3 million firefighter grant and an agreement with a design company for a monthly newsletter.
Ritson said he made the motion to invite the A.G.’s office to make the in-depth investigation to see if there were any other instances, but his motion was denied by a 3-2 vote.
Township manager Jason Winters directed solicitor Scott Avolio to review the items discussed to see if the township could be in legal trouble.
