Huge traffic back ups were reported yesterday on I-70 between the West Virginia border and Exit 1, the West Alexander exit, with PennDOT restricting and slowing traffic in that area.
Traffic stoppages will be implemented to allow crews to mill down ripples on both the east and westbound sides of the highway. The reason for the ripples? Possible damage to the highway due to long wall mining currently being done underneath the interstate.
PennDOT has also reduced the speed limit in that area because of the mining work.
PennDOT hopes to lift the restrictions by the end of March.
