Greensburg Police are asking people to be wary of scammers that claim to be with the Social Security Administration.
According to police, the scammers will call up their potential victims, and ask them for their personal information, like dates of birth, social security numbers and other pieces of information, threatening to cut off social security benefits if they don’t comply. The scammers are also able to “spoof” phone numbers to make it look like they are calling from a legitimate phone number.
The Social Security Administration reminds everyone they would never ask for sensitive personal information over the phone, and if you do receive a call along those lines, best thing to do is hang up.
