Officials with the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County said they will seek repayment from CNX Resources for the cost of water quality tests at Beaver Run Reservoir.
The Tribune-Review reports that the testing is performed by the water authority from samples collected every two days by students and faculty at IUP. The school is paid $99,000 for the routine tests and the authority is looking at CNX to cover those costs for this week after a pressure drop was discovered at a deep gas well on the property.
Drilling was temporarily halted in January after the pressure drop was discovered. Officials say any signs of contamination or tainted water are unlikely to show.
