Police are saying that a bag of kittens was discarded during a police chase involving a retail theft suspect.
Greensburg police say that they were trying to approach 37-year-old Thomas Campbell concerning recent thefts at an outdoors store when he dropped his hat, jacket and a backpack and ran from police. When police backtracked to his house, they found all the items but they also found five kittens inside the backpack. The kittens were eventually taken to an animal shelter in Greensburg.
Campbell was the man who crashed his jeep into a utility pole on Claridge Elliot Road in Claridge, and he was later found hiding underneath a mobile home by a K-9 officer.
On top of the escape, careless driving and fleeing charges, Campbell is wanted on an arrest warrant by North Huntingdon Police for a separate incident.
