A Westmoreland County Judge has ruled that evidence collected against a former high school student can be used at her trial.
The Tribune-Review reports that the evidence was for the trial of Michela G. King, now 21 years old. She is accused of launching a series of cyberattacks that disabled several computer systems in Westmoreland County. King allegedly uploaded a program to the Franklin Regional High School that flooded the system with data, and it spread to 10 other districts, along with county government and the Diocese of Greensburg.
King’s defense attorneys claimed police improperly accessed her private Google account, which pointed out what Web sites King had visited, and the defense also sought to bar information she gave police during a meeting with investigators at school. Judge Tim Krieger said both the interrogation and computer search were legal.
King is free on $10,000 unsecured bond. A trial date has not been set.
