Doctors at the Indiana Regional Medical Center has completed their first robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery.
In a news release from IRMC, the operation was done by Dr. Tracey Gemmell, an Indiana County native who has performed hundreds of robotic-assisted cases herself, and Dr. Quinence Hurdle. With the use of the hospital’s da Vinci Xi robot, patients undergoing surgery for hysterectomy, endometriosis resection, myomectomy and sarcocoloplexy can go home a few hours after the surgery is completed instead of recovering in the hospital for a day or two.
Other benefits of having robotic surgery include surgery that’s minimally invasive, reduced pain and discomfort, and minimal scarring.
