Opening statements were made yesterday in the trial of a man charged with causing a fatal crash on Christmas Eve in 2016 in East Huntingdon.
The Tribune-Review reports that assistant district attorney said that 31-year-old Matthew Ramsay of New Stanton acted with malice and was swerving his car when he hit Joseph Cummins and killed him. Police say that Ramsay was under the influence of several drugs at the time, and that he ran from the scene after the collision.
Defense attorney Jim Robinson told the jury that while Ramsay will not contest that he was responsible for the crash, but his actions do not constitute third-degree murder charges.
The trial continues today.
