A constable from Derry Township has been ordered to stand trial on charges of theft and extortion.
The Tribune-Review reports that 35-year-old Brian McDowell is accused of stealing close to $12,000 from 23 people and attempting to get cash from seven other people. Several people testified that McDowell had asked for payments to erase warrants that didn’t exist or stop the warrant process to prevent other law enforcement agencies from arresting them. Others claimed that he was collecting sponsorships for a phony shooting competition.
McDowell now faces charges of theft, extortion and official oppression. He remains free on bail.
