A doctor from North Huntingdon who is charged with over-prescribing drugs that resulted in a drug overdose death may not be competent to stand trial.
The Tribune-Review reports that the competency concerns came from the attorney for 72-year-old Dr. Michel Toret. He is charged with drug delivery resulting in the deaths of both 26-year-old Heather Dervin of North Huntingdon and 30-year-old Glenn Morgan of Level Green. Attorney Michael DeRiso said that his client’s mental state has deteriorated at a steady pace since his arrest two years ago.
Westmoreland County Judge Meghan Billik-Defazio has authorized a private mental evaluation to determine if Toret is able to aid in his own defense.
