The defense attorney for a Loyalhanna man who was sentenced to death for killing his mother, sister and aunt about 10 years ago wants more time to file an amended appeal in his client’s case.
The Tribune-Review reports that attorney Brian Aston asked for two months to contact and interview witnesses and review more than 20,000 pages of documents to prepare for a potential hearing challenging the first-degree murder conviction of Kevin Murphy, who was convicted of killing his mother Doris, sister Kris and aunt Edith Tietge at Ferguson Glass, the family’s business in Loyalhanna Township. Police said he shot them because they disapproved of his affair with a married woman and didn’t want her living at the family home near Saltsburg.
The original death sentence was handed down in 2013.
