A group of people is looking to raise money for a monument in the Hempfield area that would be dedicated to veterans of the War on Terror.
The Tribune-Review reports that the monument would be at the county’s Peach Plaza Skate and Action Park and would be re-named Patriot’s Plaza. The monument will be designed by students at Westmoreland County Community College. The county’s veterans affairs office estimates that 5,000 county residents served in the war on terror, which has been ongoing in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other areas since September 11th, 2001.
The monument is expected to be dedicated on September 11th, 2021, the 20th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
