A trucker from Georgia pleaded guilty to charges of causing a multi-vehicle crash in Salem nearly four years ago.
The Tribune-Review reports that 32-year-old Andrew Parkes was behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer that was speeding on Route 22 when it collided with a Ford pickup truck from behind, causing a chain-reaction crash involving several other vehicles on both sides of Route 22 near the Mark Drive intersection. Parkes told investigators that an SUV pulled out, and he swerved to avoid the crash.
Parkes was sentenced to serve five years on probation, and ordered to pay the eight victims of the crash up to $7,000 in restitution.
