Starting today, state dog wardens will be checking for unlicensed and unvaccinated dogs in the county.
The Tribune-Review reports that the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement Office will randomly go through neighborhoods this week. State law requires that dogs three months old or older be licensed. Annual dog licenses are $8.50, or $6.50 if the dog is spayed or neutered. There are also permanent licenses available for dogs with tattoos or microchips implanted.
Older dog owners and those with disabilities are eligible for discounts. Owners of unlicensed animals could face fines of up to $300 per unlicensed animal. Licenses can be acquired at the country treasurer’s office.
