The presiding judge hearing the case against the Westmoreland County Sheriff said he found no reason to dismiss charges against the sheriff.
The Tribune-Review reports that Senior Common Pleas Court Judge Timothy Creany issued an 11-page opinion stating that there was enough evidence to support having a jury consider charges of conflict of interest and theft against Sheriff Jonathan Held.
Held is accused of using county employees on county time to run campaign chores for him during his 2015 re-election. Held has denied the charges.
After a jury could not reach a unanimous agreement, a mistrial was declared. No word yet on when the new trial will take place.
