After nine hours of work by Parisian firefighters, the fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral was put out.
The fire broke out Monday evening in Paris and went on for several hours. The spire collapsed in the fire and it spread to one of the rectangular towers, but because of the work of 400 firefighters on-scene, the structure of the more than 800-year-old Catholic church was saved.
Right now, assessments are being made as to how much damage was done not only to the building but to the items inside. Donations are coming in to help rebuild the cathedral, including a donation of 100 million euros from French billionaire François-Henri Pinault.
