A storm water fee is being proposed for property owners in Latrobe.
The Tribune-Review reports that the proposal came from assistant township manager Michael Gray that the issue comes up during their next council meeting in May. He would like to see council take the first steps to establish the yet-to-be-determined fee, including an aerial survey by Gibson-Thomas Engineering to determine the square footage of hard surfaces that contribute to water runoff on the average residential property.
During the meeting, Gray said that the community is required by the DEP to reduce the amount of sediment carried into local waterways by storm runoff, and the cost of implementing that plan is close to $2 million. The proposed user fee would cover one-tenth of the costs.
