Hempfield could be looking at having one fire chief supervise the 12 fire departments that are in the area.
The Tribune-Review reports that currently, each station has a chief that reports to the Bureau of Fire during monthly meetings. Last month, New Jersey-based Insurance Services Offices granted Hempfield Township a six-month extension to address issues like training, water flow, response times and emergency communications, and township officials say that having one chief to report to would help them out by reducing the number of reports that would be filed with Insurance Services Offices, making it a township fire department report instead of 12 individual reports.
Officials say that each department would have a chief for day-to-day operations, and the stations would be divided into three zones of four departments.
