Monessen and Donora will receive some grants to help purchase new low-emission police vehicles.
The Tribune-Review reports that they will be paid from a $300,000 vehicle emissions reduction fund administered by the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County. The money comes from a $1.8 million settlement between PennEnvironment, the DEP and ArcelorMittal. The settlement ended a lawsuit that was filed in 2015 against the international metals company that it violated air pollution standards.
Four 2020 Ford Interceptor Utility vehicles will be purchased with the grant funding.
