The Derry Area School District recently approved a preliminary budget that contained a 2.8-mil tax hike.
The Tribune-Review reports that the Derry budget’s expenditures will reportedly be around $37 million. Expenditures are set to go up 3.2 percent in the next school year. The increase is due to rising costs for special education, teacher retirement benefits, transportation and local students attending independent cyber-charter schools.
To bridge the budget gap, they are increasing taxes and using $1.4 million out of their reserve account.
