A Jeannette woman is now in jail for putting together a hoax disappearance.
The Trib reports that 23-year-old Chloe Stein claimed in a text to her boyfriend late Monday night that she was stopped by police on a desolate stretch of road in Hempfield and wasn’t seen or heard from for about 20 hours. According to State Police Public Information Officer Trooper Steven Limani, she was never in danger and she never notified authorities or family members searching for her that she was safe at the home of an acquaintance in Jeannette last night around 8 PM.
Limani said the search cost tens of thousands of dollars in manpower and equipment, She is charged with misdemeanor charges of making false reports, false alarm to agencies of public safety, obstruction of the administration of law and disorderly conduct.
