A Westmoreland County Judge on Thursday set bail for a man charged with attempted rape of a child and other crimes.
The Trib reports that 41-year-old Anthony Laughard of Seward is accused of trying to pay a 12-year-old child for sex. Prosecutors contend Laughard solicited an undercover investigator posing online as a juvenile and arranged a meeting in North Huntingdon. Deputy Attorney General Julieane Swain said that Laughard was a threat to the community’s safety and should be kept in jail on no bail, but Defense attorney Tim Andrews argued the charges against Laughard are allegations and no evidence has been presented to support the criminal case.
Bail was set at $250,000 with the condition that if he is released, he would remain on house arrest.
