The Westmoreland County Juvenile Detention Center is closed on a temporary basis amid ongoing state child welfare investigations and staffing issues that resulted in a lack of staffing for the 16-bed facility.
The Trib reports that the investigation is looking into two incidents that happened days apart earlier this month. Neither incident resulted in a fatality, but investigators from the state’s Department of Human Services will determine whether staff at the facility, which houses juveniles charged with crimes, acted properly.
Two employees were removed from their positions pending the investigation’s outcome.
