At Monday night’s Latrobe City Council meeting, officials unanimously hired a collection agency to recoup unpaid taxes to the city.
The Trib reports that the two-year contract with Pittsburgh-based MBM Collections starts next January. They will handle cases where more than $1000 needs to be collected.
City Manager Terry Carcella said the driving force behind the decision is the amount of money that’s owed to Latrobe through sanitation fees and stormwater fees. Deputy Mayor Ralph Jenko said that many are paying their taxes, and they are willing to work with people before the cases are turned over to the tax collector.
