A Mt. Pleasant man who fired at officers in what was later determined to be a bogus home invasion was in court on Tuesday for the first day of his trial.
The Trib reports that 52-year-old Richard Teeters was charged with aggravated and simple assault and other crimes for the incident on May 24, 2021. Teeters allegedly told a 911 dispatcher that two men were trying to break into his home. When police arrived, a shot was fired at them and a standoff was initiated. Teeters walked out of the home about 30 minutes after police first arrived on the scene, placed a 9mm loaded handgun on the hood of a parked truck and crawled to officers, who placed him in custody.
Police witnesses testified that it was determined there was no one else in the home.
Testimony will continue today.
