A Latrobe police officer was honored for his life-saving efforts during this year’s Banana Split Festival.
The Trib reports that Westmoreland County Commissioners honored Officer Zachary Lukon for stopping a runaway food truck in the 900 block of Ligonier Street. When he saw the truck moving, he ran over, got in the truck and brought it to a stop. It did crash through one tent, but no other damage was reported. One person was dragged underneath the truck as he got his shirt caught on a steel platform. That man was checked out at the scene by paramedics.
Chief Richard Bosco said that if Lukon had not stopped the truck, many people would have been hurt.
