Derry Borough Council last night voted to disband the police K-9 program after a recent incident involving a K-9 officer.
The Trib reports that many of the people in attendance expressed some doubt over the version of events put forth by borough solicitor Lee Demosky regarding the incident involving K-9 officer Smoke. Smoke was euthanized after he was injured in an incident on August 25th in which he became aggressive toward a person, bit a second and got into a fight with a neighbor’s dog. Three days later, a veterinarian’s examination revealed serious injuries to Smoke’s rear, and it was decided that the most humane option would be to put him down.
While council unanimously voted to disband the K-9 program, many in the audience were calling on Glick, Mayor Grant Nicely and council president Sara Cowan resign. None of them did.
