A group of officials and residents in Plum are opposing a proposal for a new injection well.
Penneco has gotten zoning approval for the project at their existing well site on Old Leechburg Road, but some borough leaders and activists are challenging the decision. The Commonwealth Court in Pittsburgh held a hearing on the topic yesterday, with Penneco representatives arguing they have taken the proper steps to move forward.
The judge overseeing the case could send the proposal back to the zoning board for further hearings, or, could overturn their approval. It is not yet clear when a decision on the next steps will be made.
