A Jeannette City Councilman is looking at making the former Jeannette EMS station a new home for the city’s firefighters.
The Trib reports Councilman Chuck Highlands shared the idea during a council meeting Tuesday after expressing concerns about a potential funding shortfall in building a new station. The city in 2022 received a $1.2 million grant for the new fire station through the American Rescue Plan Act. In August, council decided to seek bids for the building, but officials believe the grant will pay for only part of the project to replace the department’s current station attached to city hall.
Manager Ethan Keedy said he’d look at the grant requirements, but agreed with Fire Chief Bill Frye who said it seems officials might have some leeway in how they spend the money.
